Wellington, New Zealand’s political capital, is a beguiling place, tucked between the folds of a rugged hillscape on the shores of a dramatic harbour. City precincts offer superb shopping and dining, along with a big dose of culture, from the Parliament Buildings to New Zealand’s National Museum as well as galleries, theatres and shows. Wellington City steals hearts; set on a stunning harbour, with bush-clad hills all around and old wooden houses rubbing shoulders with sparkling glass towers, it’s utterly unique. For a change from city life, head north to Kapiti for a remarkable wildlife experience.
