Christchurch Art Gallery

Five reasons to visit Christchurch Art Gallery this summer

1. Bold, bright, brilliant!

Bursting with energy and a feel-good factor, Yellow Moon is an exhibition for visitors of all ages. It offers the chance to think about how artists create, to consider differences and similarities, and to be inspired by a variety of unexpected creative thinking processes. Glowing, vivid paintings join surprising sculpture, video and photography. Featuring the work of well-known artists like Rosalie Gascoigne, Michael Smither and Colin McCahon, it also presents new work by artists Ani O’Neill and Annie Mackenzie. Until 28 October 2018. Free entry.

2. Truly trail-blazing art

Overflowing with love, loss, conflict and quiet despair, Jacqueline Fahey’s Say Something! bristles with all the intensity of domestic life. Before “the personal is political” became a rallying cry for feminism in the 1960s, Fahey began to survey the private realities of New Zealand women, making paintings that challenged norms and “appropriate” subjects for art. Often painting from the vantage point of the kitchen table, she positioned it at the centre of the complexities of family life. This exhibition revisits Fahey’s most influential body of work, the psychologically charged interiors of the 1970s. Until 11 March 2018. Free entry.
