The Royal New Zealand Ballet kicks off their local 2017 season with a tour-de-force double act that pairs two of French master choreographer Roland Petit’s landmark works, Carmen and L’Arlésienne.
Artistic director Francesco Ventriglia’s visionary interpretation, Carmen with L’Arlésienne (16 – 18 February), will burst onto stages in eight centres around the country bristling with explosive drama and high-voltage technique.
“Roland Petit was one great choreographers of the 20th century and these are two of his most iconic ballets, neither of which have ever been performed in New Zealand,” says Francesco.
“I’m delighted that the dancers of the Royal New Zealand Ballet will have the opportunity to dance his masterpieces and share them with our audiences.” It’s set to be a scorching season indeed for ballet fans!
Carmen and L’Arlésienne plays in Christchurch, Invercargill, Dunedin, Blenheim, Rotorua, Palmerston North, Wellington and Auckland; see the RNZB website for full tour stop details and dates and ticketing.
