The world’s greatest love story gets an energetic and passionate new retelling around the country throughout August and September thanks to Royal New Zealand Ballet , who are touring their brand new production of Romeo and Juliet.
Created by the company’s artistic director Francesco Ventriglia, this new take on the all-time classic production is inspired by Franco Zeffirelli’s 1968 film, a classic in its own right. An incredible team of collaborators includes James Acheson, a three-time Academy Award winning designer who brings Renaissance Verona to life with his stunning set and costumes; Mario Mattia Giorgetti. who provides dramaturgy, and of course Sergei Prokofiev, whose instantly recognisable 1938 score will be performed live in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin. Passion, tragedy, rhythm and energy – this new ballet will have it all.
