| Play with gravity at the Shotover Canyon Swing, Queenstown |
Adrenaline junkies rejoice! New Zealand has an exciting array of white-knuckle thrills and spills just waiting for you to experience.
These aren’t just your garden-variety adventures, but altogether more nerve-wracking activities to make your palms sweat – things you’ll be glad to have ‘survived’ and will remember forever, but may think twice about ever doing again!
New Zealand’s most famous adrenaline-rush is, of course, bungy jumping, and you can experience this high-altitude, high-speed thrill at spectacular sites scattered throughout the country. You can even jump off the iconic Auckland Harbour Bridge – if you dare! Another option is the slingshot bungy, which fires thrill-seekers skyward at extreme speeds. Zorbing is another unmissable Kiwi invention. Strapped into an enormous plastic, air-cushioned, transparent ball, you’ll roll down the side of a hill at high speed whilst screaming and giggling uncontrollably!
In you fancy yourself as a bit of a Superman, you can fly through the air like a bird or a plane as you take on the extreme Canyon Swing or Fly by Wire rides. Definitely not for the faint of heart! Or why not take flight and view New Zealand from above by hang-gliding, paragliding or skydiving? It’s not as expensive as you might imagine and the thrill of the experience in New Zealand’s awe-inspiring scenery is worth every cent.
Back on solid ground, how about some extreme descending as you go heli-mountain biking or heli-skiing or snowboarding in New Zealand’s rugged mountain ranges?
New Zealand’s coastlines, lakes and rivers provide even more adrenaline-pumping activities above and below the water. Jet boating is yet another Kiwi invention – brace yourself as the driver pilots the boat at breakneck speeds along the water and then suddenly executes a heart-stopping 360-degree spin! White water rafting is a popular high-adrenaline river activity throughout the country, and only in New Zealand can you drop over the 7 metre Tutea Falls – the highest commercially rafted waterfall in the world – and live to tell the tale!
Most adrenaline rush activities can be enjoyed by people at a range of skill levels, and New Zealand operators abide by the strictest of safety standards and quality control systems. Whatever kind of adventure you’re looking for, you’ll find it in New Zealand!
