Visiting Paua World in Carterton is the nearest thing to being underwater without getting wet! Amazing murals of the Wairarapa coast, both above and below the water-line, adorn the walls. Painted by Bruce Greig to create the feeling of being there – 'you feel like you are'. Then of course there is the factory to view (weekdays) and a fascinating 5 minute video to explain the Magic of Paua, New Zealand’s unique shell. Added to all of this is the huge range of gifts and jewellery for sale in the shop, you will be amazed at what can be made from Paua, Pink Mussel and Mother of Pearl shells not to mention a large selection of kiwiana. There is fun for everyone with a playground for the children in our park-like grounds and a complimentary cup of tea or coffee to break your journey.
