We are one of New Zealand’s premier cultural/heritage attractions. A faithfully recreated 1900’s pioneer town, born out of, and stimulated by, the West Coast gold rushes of the 1860’s. Shantytown provides a ‘real’ sense of what it was like to live in New Zealand by allowing visitors to participate in and observe our country as it was. Shantytown is located approximately 10 kilometres south of Greymouth.
