Mountain knowledge Famous for all-day sunshine, wide-open, uncrowded runs and a relaxed Kiwi atmosphere, as well as its dry powder, Mount Dobson offers outstanding skiing and boarding. From New Zealand’s largest learner/ intermediate area to advanced runs with miles of untracked powder, there is skiing and boarding available for all levels, with a great balance between groomed trails and off-piste options for the more adventurous. With the largest dedicated learners’ area in New Zealand, Mount Dobson is an ideal place to learn to ski or board. Wide slopes and plenty of space makes for a relaxed environment – ideal for developing skills. The Ski School is comprised of a team of international instructors who are passionate about skiing and boarding, and offers group and private lessons for all levels of ability, also catering for the disabled. The field’s three-kilometre wide basin boasts 14 separate runs threading its 400 hectares, and is accessible from the Triple Chair, T-Bar and Platter. The huge natural half-pipe is a favourite with boarders. A café as well as complete equipment and clothing rental are all available on the field. Good accommodation options are available at several nearby towns including Fairlie, Geraldine, and Tekapo.
