- Winner of the 2011 Michael Hill International Violin Competition, Russian-born Sergey Malov teams up with pianist Michael Houstoun for a spellbinding programme of virtuosic repertoire. In 2011, Sergey won the International Mozart Competition in Salzburg, before scoring a hat-trick at the 2011 Michael Hill International Violin Competition, scooping the top prize along with the inaugural Julian Paul Anderson Award for Best Chamber Music Player and the Audience Prize. Revered pianist Michael Houstoun will perform with Sergey on the tour. Equally accomplished on viola as well as violin, Sergey performs Schubert’s Arpeggione Sonata in D minor (arranged for viola and piano) in New Plymouth, as well as dazzling works by Bartok and Paganini. Programme: Schubert - Arpeggione Sonata in D minor D821 (arranged for viola and piano); Bartók - Sonata for Solo Violin; Schumann - Sonata No 1 in A minor Opus 105; Paganini - La Campanella.
