Some tiny outposts don’t have credit card facilities and some businesses might not accept American Express or Diners Club credit cards. It’s therefore always a good idea to carry some cash. MasterCard and Visa are widely accepted.

 

In New Zealand all major credit cards are accepted. You can get cash from an ATM with your credit card as long as it has a four-digit PIN number encoded.

Note that some tiny outposts don’t have credit card facilities and some businesses might not accept American Express or Diners Club credit cards. It’s therefore always a good idea to carry some cash. MasterCard and Visa are widely accepted.

Also bear in mind that although the technology is catching on, credit cards with so-called Smart Card Technology aren’t accepted everywhere in New Zealand just yet. Smart Card Technology credit cards are cards that feature a microchip and may not have a magnetic strip.
