When paying in cash in New Zealand, prices are rounded up or down according to the Swedish Rounding System. Prices ending in 1 to 4 cents are rounded down, while prices ending in 6 to 9 cents are rounded up.

 

New Zealand’s currency is the New Zealand dollar (NZ$). The New Zealand currency comprises coins of 10, 20 and 50 cents, $1 and $2; and notes of $5, $10, $20, $50 and $100.

 

When paying in cash in New Zealand, prices are rounded up or down according to the Swedish Rounding System. Prices ending in 1 to 4 cents are rounded down, while prices ending in 6 to 9 cents are rounded up. This means, for example, a purchase of goods equalling $30.23 will be rounded down to $30.20, while a purchase of goods equalling $30.27 will be rounded up to $30.30. It’s up to the retailer how they handle purchases ending in 5 cents.
