The very first All Blacks team competed in 1884 against New South Wales and they played (and won!) their first test in 1903 against Australia.
In New Zealand, we certainly love our national Rugby team! The All Blacks are an exciting team to watch and everyone has their favourite player. Here are some of the biggest names to look out for (and to drop into the conversation when you're talking to a Rugby-mad local!).

Check out our list of current heroes:
- Richie McCaw, the All Blacks Captain, plays in the position of Loose Forward and is recognised as the world’s best openside flanker. His provincial team is Canterbury.
- Superstar Dan Carter is the team’s top scorer and plays in the position of First Five-Eighths.
- Second Five-Eighths Ma’a Nonu from the Wellington squad is famous for being one of the toughest marks in world rugby. This man breaks any line!

- Conrad Smith is the man known to be at the right place at the right time. The All Blacks Centre is dubbed ‘Snake’ for his ability to sneak through any defence.
