Hawke’s Bay’s restaurants and cafés are turning up the heat as 39 eateries prepare to compete at this year’s Hawke’s Bay Regional Signature Dish Competition.

The 2010 Hawke’s Bay Regional Signature Dish Competition will run from 10 September till 19 October, and this year a Café Category has been added for the very first time. This will give even more Hawke’s Bay chefs the opportunity to showcase the region’s culinary expertise.

A line-up of local and out-of-town top-secret mystery judges will visit all of the 39 participating Hawke’s Bay restaurants and cafés and sample their submitted dishes on the search for the winning dish, representing the best selection of local produce, perfectly matched with a Hawke’s Bay beverage.

You can also have your say by voting in the People’s Choice Awards in each of the competition’s categories, Formal, Casual and Café. Look out for first-class delicacies such as damsons, poached duck eggs, white balsamic, quark, piko piko, rabbit, truffle oil and plenty of lamb and seafood.
