Are you in The Coromandel and looking to do something great on the weekend? How about the Whitianga Scallop Festival 2010? The annual festival will take place this Saturday (28 August), with heaps of pre-festival events being held from Thursday 26 August, and chill-out parties happening after the big day.
Every year, the Whitianga Scallop Festival celebrates Coromandel seafood and cuisine and makes sure the opening of the scallop season goes off with a bang. Get ready for the Whitianga Scallop Festival 2010 with à la carte dining and a comedy night on Thursday, and the Blacksmith Lane Street Party, Scallop Idol, live music and more on Friday. By Saturday the Whitianga Scallop Festival will be in full swing. Celebrate New Zealand cuisine and Coromandel seafood with a day jam-packed with culinary events. Watch the Celebrity Shuck Off between Philippa Barriball and Nici Wickes or the Celebrity Cook Off between Philippa Barriball and Sandra Goudie, and join in highlights such as Konkoxion, The Flaming Mudcats or the Fresh Fish Auction. The Coromandel seafood party will go well into the night with live music and delicious scallop dishes.
On Sunday it’s all about winding down. Join in the Hangover Brunch at Blacksmith Bar and then head to the Recovery Party at Hotwaves Café with live music and – you guessed it – more scallops. With Relaxation Plus you can unwind at the mineral pools of The Lost Spring, or you can take the kids to Birdwood Springs Miniputt which offers half-price entry for the whole Whitianga Scallop Festival weekend.
