Jeff the Kiwi is absolutely convinced that there is the slightest scent of snow in the air, and with so much to look forward to in the 2011 New Zealand ski season you can’t blame him.

One of the biggest events of the 2011 New Zealand winter will be the 100% Pure New Zealand Winter Games. This year, the massive snow event boasts a whopping 16 days of every imaginable competition! Taking place from 13 till 28 August 2011, the world’s top winter athletes will flock to New Zealand’s ski areas to compete in disciplines ranging from skiing and snowboarding to ice skating, curling, adaptive snow sports and a winter triathlon!

Winter sports competitions in 2011 will take place at Coronet Peak, Mt Hutt, Cardrona Alpine Resort, Snow Park NZ and Snow Farm Ski Area as well as in Naseby and Dunedin. But the action doesn’t end on the slopes. The regions’ cities will put on a massive winter festival with heaps of events to keep the party going till well after dark. Dunedin has already announced the Dunedin Rail Jam for 20 August 2011 and Methven will host the infamous Methven Big Air on 27 August to coincide with the 100% Pure New Zealand Winter Games. More parties and winter events will be announced, so keep an eye on the official 100% Pure New Zealand Winter Games website. The site also features accommodation and travel packages. If you’d rather travel independently, browse our transport and accommodation sections to choose your faves and mix and match. Do remember to book early though as accommodation books out quickly.

And here’s a little insider tip: keep an eye out for the brand-new New Zealand Ski & Snowboard guide which will come out soon. It'll be jam-packed with everything you need to know about New Zealand winter events, New Zealand skiing and snowboarding, snow activities, New Zealand ski areas, ski and snowboard gear and much more!
