Golden leaves, low sun-rays, chilly evenings – autumn is in full swing and this coming weekend there’s a perfect way to celebrate the season down in Southland. On 26 and 27 March 2011 the annual Heritage Harvest Festival Riverton will take place.

The 2011 Heritage Harvest Festival Riverton celebrates the local harvest with stalls, tastings, displays, competitions and workshops. Taste a myriad of apple varieties and apple cider, try delicious comb honey and sample local cheeses. On Saturday night you can join the Heritage Harvest Feast with homegrown music.

There are plenty of activities for children, but the hands-on experience is not just for the young’uns. Learn how to create and process your own harvest in 20 workshops such as seed saving, preserving, propagating and autumn planting. The workshops take place at Aparima College and are NZ$6 per event or NZ$20 for four. For a full list of workshops and other details, click here.
