It’s time to don your running shoes and get ready for Challenge Wanaka, a week-long festival of triathlon! Challenge Wanaka 2011 will take place from Sunday 9 January till Saturday 15 January and feature events for all ages and abilities right at the shores of beautiful Lake Wanaka.

Challenge Wanaka starts with the Puzzling World Junior Challenge for young triathletes, followed by the Swim the Course and Radio Wanaka Fun Run. On Friday 14 January downtown Wanaka will be buzzing with New Zealand’s very best triathletes, Olympians and national champs who will all compete in the criterium-style Contact Tri Series.

The festival will come to an end with the flagship Challenge Wanaka Race on Saturday 15 January which will see professional ironmen and women from all over the world race alongside hundreds of regular athletes. The Challenge Wanaka Race is known as the world’s most scenic iron distance triathlon and features a whopping 3.8-kilometre swim, a 180-kilometre bike race and a 42.2-kilometre run. Of course all participants will be rewarded with a massive party of music, fireworks and more at the finish line.

Whether you want to join in as an athlete or want to cheer on the competitors, check out the Challenge Wanaka official website for entry forms, dates and more info!
