After the big success of the Chinese Lantern Festival in Auckland last weekend it is now Christchurch’s turn to celebrate the Year of the Rabbit.

The Christchurch Chinese Lantern Festival 2011 will be held at Victoria Square from Friday 25 February till Sunday 27 February to welcome the Year of the Rabbit in style. The annual festival will kick off at 8:30pm on Friday with a Twilight Parade from Rolleston Avenue to Worcester Boulevard, featuring international performers in traditional costume, heaps of lanterns and dragon boats.

The whole weekend is packed with events. Look out for Chinese rock band Askar Grey Wolf, Shanghai Bai Yulan jazz band or the award-winning Chengdu rod puppetry theatre show (which even features a Michael Jackson routine!), and also make sure you sample some delicious Asian food at one of the many food stalls.
