Today we have relatively good news from earthquake-stricken Christchurch. Although the central city is still cordoned off to enable the cleaning up process, buses in the city are now running again and tourism in Canterbury is getting back to normal.

As of 12pm today, 98 percent of accommodation providers and tourism attractions were fully operational, and you can see a list of all operational businesses below. After thorough inspections only five percent of the more than 550 inspected buildings in the city have been severely damaged, and Christchurch is doing its best to get back on its feet. Christchurch and Canterbury i-SITE Visitor Information Centres have email and telephones back and are up and running again.

Train services on the routes Christchurch to Greymouth and Christchurch to Picton are expected to be running again from tomorrow and are currently replaced by buses. Christchurch Airport is fully operational although there might be some delays and you are still recommended to contact your travel agent before travelling to Christchurch Airport.

Christchurch's iconic Court Theatre in the heart of the city is currently closed, but the team urges people to keep checking their website www.courttheatre.org.nz until they are able to confirm dates for re-opening and resuming performances.
