And the winner is… Riverstone Kitchen in Oamaru! Yesterday the winners of the Cuisine NZ Restaurant of the Year Awards 2010 were revealed and Riverstone Kitchen, twelve kilometres outside Oamaru, has been crowned Supreme Winner.

Owners Monique and Bevan Smith managed to beat 49 other finalists and are proud to bring the culinary trophy to the South Island for the first time in the six-year history of the Cuisine NZ Restaurant of the Year Awards. The Smiths are convinced that their concept of delivering unfussy, honest dishes made from few ingredients from the family’s garden is a winning recipe and the judges agreed: “It feels like it pours New Zealand’s very soul into diners.” Chef Bevan, who trained as a chef in Christchurch, settled back in New Zealand six years ago after cooking all over the world, and he started Riverstone Kitchen as a tiny place in the countryside. Well, since yesterday Riverstone Kitchen is on top of the world. So make sure you sample the restaurant when you’re in the Oamaru region next time!
