In the last days, two of New Zealand’s wineries have celebrated huge success, albeit of a slightly different nature.
Rippon Vineyard, on the shores of Lake Wanaka, is proud that their outstanding Pinot Noir was chosen for a very special barbeque which Prime Minister John Key hosted in honour of Hillary Clinton’s visit. Celebrity chef Steve Logan of Logan Brown had the task of selecting one wine from each of the key New Zealand wine-growing regions, and he chose Rippon Vineyard’s Pinot Noir as a representative of Central Otago.
“We’re thrilled and extremely humbled to have [had] our wine poured at such an important event,” said winemaker Nick Mills; and Lake Wanaka Tourism GM James Helmore added: “Rippon is renowned as arguably the most scenic vineyard in the world […] Their selection at this prestigious event goes to show their wine is just as good as their views.” If you would like to taste Rippon Vineyard’s wines for yourself, we have more good news: this summer, Rippon will open their new tasting room, making the vineyard a must-visit for any wine enthusiast.
The other New Zealand winery who had a great reason to celebrate was Yealands Winery in Marlborough. Yealands has become the first New Zealand business to win the international award for Sustainable Wine Tourism Practises! The award recognises Yealand’s role in pioneering, world-leading environmental initiatives. Yealands Winery is carboNZero-certified and showcases advanced green technology alongside sustainable practises and runs sustainability tours for visitors.
