Roll out the red carpet – a star has been reborn! Last night, Wellington’s former Capitol Theatre, now revamped as The Roxy, has been unveiled at a stunning invitation-only opening night.
The movie theatre in Park Road, Miramar which was built in 1928 has undergone a NZ$7-million renovation thanks to some big names in the film industry such as Sir Peter Jackson, Sir Richard Taylor, his wife Tania Rodger and Jamie Selkirk. The Roxy cinema now boasts its original Art Deco facade and an opulent 1930s interior complemented by state-of-the-art 3D technology.
The two cinemas offer seating for 164 and 55 people and The Roxy cinema even boasts its own restaurant, Coco Restaurant, and cocktail bar! Amongst the lucky first to set foot into The Roxy cinema have been several of the cast from The Hobbit which is currently being shot in Waikato’s Matamata. If you want to be the next to catch a New Zealand movie in this latest addition to New Zealand’s boutique cinemas, check out http://roxycinema.co.nz. The Coco Restaurant will open tomorrow 1 April, with the first movie being screened on Thursday 7 April.
