The Garden City of Christchurch is gearing up for its number-one event of the year, NZ Cup and Show Week, taking place from 6 November till 13 November 2010. The week-long party combines horse racing and rodeo, fashion and food, dining and dancing, and much, much more.

NZ Cup and Show Week 2010 will kick off with the $1 Million Magic NZ 2000 Guineas Day on Saturday 6 November in which Australasia’s best three-year-olds race in the New Zealand 2000 Guineas competition. Other racing highlights include the Ladies’ Day Coupland’s Bakeries Mile (Wednesday 10 November) and the Lindauer Family Race Day (Friday 12 November).

The Canterbury A&P Show will take place from Wednesday 10 November till Friday 12 November and will feature wood-chopping, trade exhibits, demonstrations, livestock, competitions, live music, food and wine. This year, there will also be a Guinness World Record attempt at leap frog, which is scheduled for 12:45pm on Thursday 11 November.

If you’re into fashion, the Addington’s Best Dressed and Riccarton’s Fashion in the Field competitions are a must-do. Should you need help with your styling, the iconic department store Ballantynes runs a couple of free workshops in preparation for the big events. Tomorrow (22 October) you can learn about finding your perfect handbag, hat and heels, and the week after (29 October) they show you how to stand out in a crowd! Workshops run from 11:30am to 12:30pm and 1pm to 2pm at the Ballantynes Dilmah t-house. Book your free sessions on +64 3 379 7400.
