If you’re in the Northland region in October and November you should schedule a visit to the Kauri Museum in Matakohe.
Here you can not only see fascinating exhibits about one of the world's mightiest trees, but from Tuesday 19 October till Sunday 28 November you can also browse the Otamatea Quilters Exhibition. This annual exhibition of the Otamatea Quilters Group showcases the craft of patchwork and quilting against the backdrop of the massive Kauri slice that dominates the museum.
Items on display range from traditional quilts and New Zealand motifs to innovative designs and abstract patterns. The quilting artists will be attending the exhibition on Labour Weekend (22 till 25 October) so you can catch up and ask questions.
The exhibition is open from 9am till 5pm and normal museum admission charges apply.
