Queenstown, Wanaka, Arrowtown and surrounds will start the year 2011 with a bang by holding their month-long Summerdaze Festival throughout the whole of January 2011!

The Summerdaze Festival, now in its seventh year, will kick off with Queenstown’s massive New Year’s Eve Celebrations in Earnslaw Park. Expect explosive live music, food stalls and dazzling fireworks above Lake Wakatipu!

The following weeks will be jam-packed with more than 30 summertime events for everyone, featuring sports, music, arts and crafts, markets and much more. Special events for the young’uns include Teddy Bears’ Picnics, while teens can have a go at skateboarding competitions, and sports enthusiasts can take their pick from mountain biking events, rodeos and triathlons. Further attractions include outdoor cinemas and theatres under the summer night skies.

New in 2011 is the Summerdaze Kite Workshop and Display. Both kids and adults can create their own aircrafts and marvel at the spectacular display of colourful kites taking to the skies! More information and a full list of events can be found on the official Summerdaze Festival website, so go on and join the summer fun!

Just a quick reminder though: Queenstown accommodation fills up quickly during peak season, especially around New Year’s. To avoid (unsuccessful) last-minute hotel hunting, have a look at our Queenstown accommodation section and book your bed right now!
