This Friday, 24 June, the 2011 American Express Queenstown Winter Festival will kick off and it will do so with a bang. Queenstown’s skies will be set alight with the biggest fireworks the biggest alpine party in the Southern Hemisphere has ever seen.

The Opening Party for the American Express Queenstown Winter Festival 2011 will launch the eagerly awaited ten-day snow frenzy of events. To make sure everything runs smoothly during the spectacular fireworks display there will be a security zone and restricted access to Queenstown Gardens from 6:30pm till 7:30pm. The best viewing places for the Queenstown Winter Festival Opening Party spectacle are anywhere at Earnslaw Park and along Marine Parade.

But the show starts way before the grand fireworks: the 100% NZ Music Show featuring the greatest Kiwi hits, the Dukes, Anna Leat and Sarah Foley from 5:30pm. At 7pm you’re in for the anticipated fireworks which you can enjoy in true winter style with a glass of mulled wine from one of the stalls.

Afterwards, Kiwi rocker Jordan Luck will take to the stage and then the party moves indoors to the American Express Ice Box where the Absolut NZ Party features more live music from the Dukes and People of Paris.

While the fireworks and outdoor live music are free for everyone, you have to get tickets for the Absolut NZ Party if you want to be part of the action. While you’re booking those tickets, it’s best to sort out your tickets for other American Express Queenstown Winter Festival events as well. View the full programme on the official Queenstown Winter Festival website.

And do make sure you have your Queenstown accommodation sorted. Many hostels and hotels are already fully booked so you have to get in fast!
