It’s time to take your taste-buds on a journey through Kiwi cuisine! From 5 August till 21 August, Wellington transforms into New Zealand’s number-one culinary hot-spot for the Visa Wellington on a Plate event.

On this year’s festival programme there are over 80 events for all tastes and budgets to choose from. During the time of the festival 100 of the region’s greatest eateries will put on set lunchtime menus and dinner offers under the umbrella of DINE Wellington.

But of course there is much more to indulge in than bargains for lunch- and dinnertime indulgence. The battle of the burgers is back on with 50 competitors fighting for the title of Burger Wellington. Check out the list of competing cafés and restaurants, get sampling and cast your vote!

Another Visa Wellington on a Plate highlight this year is the launch of the Wellington Fisher & Paykel MasterClass. Here you can get up close with Al Brown, Alexa Johnston and other top chefs in the ultimate cooking shows!

If you’re after a hands-on experience, get into the kitchen and bake to your heart’s content for the Wellington Bake Club 2011 competition! With NZ$4,500 of kitchen and food prizes up for grabs, it’s worth looking up those old family recipes.

For detailed info on all events, head to the official Visa Wellington on a Plate website. New this year, you can now book many of the festival events directly through the site.

And why not expand your culinary experiences at Visa Wellington on a Plate into a full-on culinary road trip? Check out our tips and ideas including New Zealand farmers’ markets and Kiwi delicacies.
