hspace="10" vspace="10" width="150" height="226" align="left" />Do you like good coffee? Do you like fantastic food? What if I said you could have both of these and the feel-good factor that comes from eating organic vegetarian fare? Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a full-time vegetarian, but I happily forgo bacon and steak whenever I visit my favourite little café at Kerikeri in the Bay of Islands. Café Zest is easy to find – look for the splash of zesty orange on the main street.

It’s always buzzing with a mix of visitors and local shop assistants out on their lunch break, which has got to be a good sign. Make your selection from the blackboard menu or the oh-so-tempting cabinet and settle in, reading a magazine or flicking through brochures advertising ‘aura therapy’ and Buddhist retreats until your lunch arrives.

This time I’ve fallen for the vegetarian lasagne and it’s delicious – it looked huge, but I polished it off, no sweat! The worst thing is that at the end I can never resist buying a piece of cake or a slice to go – they’re scrumptious! Well, at least you can convince yourself to indulge guilt-free, feeling like you’ve balanced it out with your gluten-free vegetarian lasagne and your soy flat white. I do.</div>
