A region of natural extremes, Central Otago has a rich history to discover and a burgeoning wine and fruit industry to savour.

Central Otago, or simply 'Central' as it is called by those that know it, is a region of overwhelmingly rugged natural beauty. Lofty mountain peaks tower over the waters of the mighty Clutha River as the orderly rows of grapevines criss-cross the landscape as far as the eye can see. The region is particularly stunning in autumn when the foliage blazes yellow and everything seems to take on a magical golden light. Central Otago’s golden history stretches back to the 1860s – the abandoned relics of the Otago Gold Rush still dot the landscape in silent tribute to the men who searched for their fortunes here. Rivers that were once scoured for gold now irrigate the soil to fuel the booming wine and fruit industries for which the region is today renowned. With its stunning lakes, historic townships and more vineyards and wineries that you can count, this is an inspiring and timeless land.
