Fantastic viewpoints from which to enjoy New Zealand’s spectacular scenery number far, far too many to list here – in fact there’s so many that often you don’t even need to specifically seek them out, but can just wander over to the window of your room and look outside! Here are just a few of the highlights of the many places the length and breadth of the country where an amazing vista is an added bonus with your night’s sleep.
Princes Wharf, Auckland
Perched on Princes Wharf 300 metres out to sea on the Auckland city waterfront, yet just minutes from the CBD, the Hilton Auckland (pictured above) offers spectacular views out across the sail-filled Auckland Harbour, and the wide views, private balconies and sun decks from which to properly appreciate them. You can even view the harbour from an underwater window in the lap pool!
Kepler Track, Fiordland
The accommodation may be basic at this 40-bunk Department of Conservation hut on Fiordland’s Kepler Track (one of the country’s Great Walks), but the views are million-dollar ones. Sitting well above the bush line at 1043 metres, the hut’s deck offers simply gobsmacking views out across the Kepler Mountains and over Lake Te Anau. Sunsets and sunrises here simply have to be experienced to be believed.
Taupiri Range, Waikato
Nestled amidst native forest on top of the Waikato’s Taupiri Ranges, this eco-retreat offers panoramic views of the surrounding rolling, forest clad hills, with every single room offering a majestic view of quintessentially New Zealand scenery (pictured below).
Villa Del Lago
Perched on the shores of Queenstown’s crystal-clear Lake Wakitipu, Villa Del Lago’s vantage point offers views across the tranquil lake to the well-named Remarkables mountain range, and all within three minutes’ drive of the town centre.
