Waiheke Island named the world's fifth best destination for 2016 by Lonely Planet

The Hauraki Gulf’s Waiheke Island has received a notable gong from travel bible Lonely Planet, being named the globe’s 5th-best region to visit for 2016.

The venerated travel guide described the island as a “…utopia of secret coves, beautiful beaches, rolling vineyards, luxury lodges and bohemian sensibilities.”

The accolade followed hot on the heels of another prestigious recognition for the beautiful island, with readers of Conde Nast voting Waiheke the world’s fourth best island.
