With varied terrain, cosy mountain lodges and even their own craft beer (!), this hidden gem of a field promises unique off-piste adventure and is a Mecca for telemark skiers. If you’re after a friendly atmosphere with varied terrain and great soft snow conditions (and no lift lines!), then Broken River is the place for you. Start your day with a stunning four-minute ride up through native forest on NZ’s only alpine funicular railway – the Tyndall Tramway. Spend the day exploring the rolling bowls and chutes of Broken River and Allan’s Basin. Take the Ridge Tow to Allan’s Basin for great powder runs and backcountry atmosphere. (Warning – one run is never enough!) When it’s time for a break, relax in the sun with the locals on the massive deck at Palmer Lodge – Broken River offers a real family / community feeling and the regulars will make you feel welcome. You’ll definitely want to try the field’s own craft-brewed beer on tap! You can add to your unique adventure by staying in one of their cosy on-mountain lodges, just 10 minutes’ walk from the lifts. Both catered and self-catered accommodation options are available and special discounts on six day, seven night ski week packages – perfect for not only an amazing week but to take advantage of regularly scheduled night skiing. Make sure you check out the sauna!
