Time to break out the bold colours and the big hair – 1980s pop icons a-ha are coming to our shores in March 2020 to celebrate 35 years since their debut release, Hunting High and Low, by performing the album in full, including smash hit ‘Take On Me’. The concert will feature other favourites from across their career.
In their first visit to New Zealand, a-ha – singer Morten Harket, keyboardist Mags Furuholmen and guitarist Paul Waaktaar-Savoy – will perform in Christchurch on March 5 and Auckland on March 7. Joining them is Rick ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’ Astley, also making his New Zealand debut.
The Auckland concert, at Villa Maria Winery, will mark the New Zealand return of A Day on the Green, the hugely popular concert series that since 2008 has featured the likes of Joe Cocker, Simply Red, The B-52s, The Proclaimers, John Mellencamp, Sheryl Crow, Diana Krall and Tom Jones.
a-ha have sold more than 55 million albums and remain one of the UK and Europe’s most loved pop bands, regularly playing stadiums and festivals. Their songs and those of Rick Astley have been a big part of the pop soundtrack to countless lives, and this tour promises to be a highlight on the summer concert calendar. Get your bookings in stat if you don’t want to miss out – tickets go on sale on Friday July 26.
