Situated on the majestic Mount Taranaki, Taranaki’s only ski area has two natural half-pipes offering great snowboarding and awesome terrain for beginner and intermediate skiers. The lower mountain more often than not loses snow between falls, being low in elevation (and the second-wettest place in NZ!), but needs only 30 cm of snow to open, as it’s on a mown tussock meadow, and is served by a beginners’ tow and an intermediate T-bar. The top tow has several steep runs about 1 km long and offers outstanding snowboarding, with many natural half-pipes. Restrooms, ticket office and snack food are all available. Lodging is available at the modern, warm and comfortable Manganui Ski Lodge at the base of the lift facilities which provides a ski-in, ski-out option. Ensure that you bring gear with you to the mountain, as there is no on-field equipment hire, and make sure that you wear sensible footwear for the short walk to the field from the carpark.
