Simple Minds, OMD to tour in 2020

Musical giants Simple Minds will play three concerts in New Zealand in December 2020 – Christchurch’s Horncastle Arena on December 9, Wellington’s TSB Arena on December 11 and A Day on the Green at Auckland’s Villa Maria Winery on December 12, 2020.

Joining Simple Minds at all shows are acclaimed UK avant-garde band Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (OMD). Both bands are marking 40 years of writing and performing some of the seminal sounds of the post-punk era. These musical pioneers created their own fusion of art rock and electronic dance music, and gave birth to synth pop. The influence of both bands can be heard in many of the current crop of chart toppers.

Simple Minds’ tour celebrates the release of 40: The Best Of – 1979-2019, a new 40-song collection marking their 40th anniversary. The compilation features a cover of Scottish singer-songwriter King Creosote’s ‘For One Night Only’.

It was the release of New Gold Dream (81–82–83–84) that set Simple Minds alight in New Zealand. A string of awards and more unforgettable hits followed, including ‘Promised You A Miracle’, ‘Let There Be Love’, ‘Alive and Kicking’, ‘Sanctify Yourself’, ‘Belfast Child’ and the truly iconic ‘Don’t You (Forget About Me)’, recorded for the unforgettable John Hughes’ film The Breakfast Club.

They’ve since gone on to sell more than 60 million albums, taking their rightful place as one of the great bands of their generation.

Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark will bring hits such as ‘If You Leave’, anti-war song ‘Enola Gay’, and other classics including ‘Souvenir’, ‘Electricity’, and ‘So In Love’.

Pre-sales for the Auckland show will be available at for 24 hours from noon on Thursday, November 14 and at the same time for all three shows at Tickets for all shows go on general sale from noon on Monday, November 18.

Don’t you forget to get tickets – this one is going to be a banger!
